עֹלָה ‘olah (H5930) comes from the root עֹל ‘al (H5923) which means to lift up the yoke upon the shoulders of the oxen. When referring to a sacrifice, עֹלָה olah is an offering that is brought up or lifted up or a “burnt offering” from the rising smoke of the offering. עֹלָה olah is translated as “ascension offering” in Jeff Benner’s Mechanical Translation of the Torah and “whole burnt-offering” in Charles Vanderpool’s Apostolic Bible Polyglot where the Greek Old Testament translates עֹלָה olah as ολοκαυτώματα holokaftómata (G3646) meaning “all is burned” from a derivative of a compound of ὅλος holos (G3650) “all or whole” and καίω kaiō (G2545) “to set on fire or burn.” When referring to a sacrifice, ολοκαυτώματα holokaftómata is unique from other sacrifices where only a part of the offering is burned.
