In Greek, δόγμα dogma (G1378) are usually man-made decrees of rulers such as kings (Daniel 2:13), Caesar (Acts 17:7), or Jewish leaders (cf. Ezra 6:8; Ephesians 2:15; Colossians 2:14). δόγμα dogma is equivalent to the Hebrew word אֱסָר esar (H633) which means “to bind” as in a decree that binds others to the will of the ruler (cf. Daniel 6:8) and דָּת dat (H1881) which is only used once Deuteronomy 33:2 and Ezra 8:36 and each of the next 19 times is in only in the book of Esther and translated as “law” or “commandment” (i.e. Esther 3:14).
