צִיצִת tsitsit (H6734) tassel on clothing (cf. Numbers 15:38) or lock of hair (cf. Ezekiel 8:3) represented as blossoms. צִיצִת tsitsit comes from the root word צִיץ tsits (H6731) which literally means “to bloom” (cf. Numbers 17:8). צִיצִת tsitsit is equivalent to κράσπεδον kraspedon (G2899) which means “decorative hem” and and translated as edge, border, hem, or tassel. “The tassels were meant to serve as a reminder of the Lord’s commandments, and in the New Testament era both Jews and Christians wore them, in contrast to the pagan majority of the Roman world.” Miller, M. S., Miller, J. L., & Lane, J. (2012). Harper’s encyclopedia of bible life (2nd ed.). Castle Books.
