גִּלְעָד Gil’ad (H1568) means “witness heap” and comes from the Hebrew words גַּל gal (H1530) which means “heap, mound, or hill” and עֵד ‛ed which means “witness or testimony”. The region was mountainous and hilly, with a peak that reached 4,090 feet. Gilead was rich in balms, oil, honey, gum, and resin. Gilead was a region where Yeshua grew up and was located east of the Jordan River and extended from the Sea of Galilee to the Dead Sea.
