מִנְחָה minchah (H4503) comes from the root נֹחַ noach (H5183) which means to rest or give one rest (cf. Genesis 5:29). When referring to a sacrifice, מִנְחָה minchah is closely connected to the word נחת nechath (H5182) which is the act of making a deposit, gift, or a free contribution; what is brought to another as a gift. מִנְחָה minchah is translated as “deposit” in Jeff Benner’s Mechanical Translation of the Torah and “gift offering” in Charles Vanderpool’s Apostolic Bible Polyglot where the Greek Old Testament translates מִנְחָה minchah as δώρον dóron (G1435) meaning “gift.”
