מֵימְרָא memra is of Aramaic origin and equivalent to the Aramaic word מֵאמַר memar (H3983) which means word or command.  In the Bible, מֵאמַר memar is translated as appointment (cf. Ezra 6:9) and word, in the sense of a decree or demand (cf. Daniel 4:17). מַאֲמָר maamar (H3982) also means command or word, in the sense of a decree or a demand, and may be of Persian origin as it’s only used in the book of Esther (cf. Esther 1:15; Esther 2:20; Esther 9:32). Both מֵאמַר memar and מַאֲמָר maamar correspond to the Hebrew word אָמַר amar (H559) which means “to speak words” as in a continuation or combination of words to make a sentence (cf. Genesis 1:3; Genesis 2:16; Exodus 8:27; Exodus 35:4).
