שָׂרָף saraph (H8314) literally means “to burn” likely because of the venom from the bite or the fire from the mouth of a creature. שְּׂרָפִים seraphim (H8314) is the masculine plural of שָׂרָף saraph. Isaiah describes seraphim as having six wings, the ability to speak, and able to enter the tabernacle in heaven (cf. Isaiah 6:1-7).
