Commonly translated as “curse,” אֹרר arar (H779) comes from the root word רָר rar (H7325) which means the flowing of a liquid (cf. Leviticus 15:3). Thus, אֹרר arar literally means “to spit on”. The Greek Old Testament translated אֹרר arar as ερείς κακώς ereís kakós (G2046 + G2560) which means “to speak evil”.
