גְּדִלִים gedilim (H1434) are tassels made by twisting fibers together. גְּדִלִים gedilim comes from the root word (H1434) which literally means “to magnify” (cf. Genesis 12:12; Genesis 21:8) in the sense of increasing in size or ones position of honor (Jeff Benner). גְּדִלִים gedilim is equivalent to κράσπεδον kraspedon (G2899) which means “decorative hem” and and translated as edge, border, hem, or tassel. “The tassels were meant to serve as a reminder of the Lord’s commandments, and in the New Testament era both Jews and Christians wore them, in contrast to the pagan majority of the Roman world.” Miller, M. S., Miller, J. L., & Lane, J. (2012). Harper’s encyclopedia of bible life (2nd ed.). Castle Books.
