ἡσυχία hēsychia (G2271) is a concept that can be translated as “stillness, rest, quiet, or silence” and is the description of the life of one who stays at home doing his own work, and does not officiously meddle with the affairs of others. ἡσυχία hēsychia is equivalent to the Hebrew word דָּמַם damam (H1826) which means to be silent, be still, wait, or to become unable to speak (cf. Joshua 10:12; Psalm 37:7)
