Torah Portion (T)
Devarim (Deuteronomy) 6:4 – 7:26
6:4 Hear, Israel, YHWH is our Elohim. YHWH is one. 5 You will love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. 6 These words, which I command you today, will be on your heart; 7 and you will teach them diligently to your sons, and will talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You will bind them for a sign on your hand, and they will be for frontlets between your eyes. 9 You will write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates. 10 It will be, when YHWH your Elohim brings you into the land which he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you, great and goodly cities which you didn’t build, 11 and houses full of all good things which you didn’t fill, and cisterns dug out which you didn’t dig, vineyards and olive trees which you didn’t plant, and you will eat and be full; 12 be on guard lest you forget YHWH [your Elohim],(LXX)(SP) who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 13 You will fear YHWH your Elohim; and you will serve him, [and you will cling to him,](LXX) and will swear by his name. 14 You will not go after other elohim, of the elohim of the peoples who are around you, 15 for YHWH your Elohim among you is a zealous Elohim, lest the anger of YHWH your Elohim be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the land. 16 You will not test YHWH your Elohim, as you tested him in Massah. 17 You will diligently guard the commandments of YHWH your Elohim, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he has commanded you. 18 You will do that which is right and good in the sight of YHWH, that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which YHWH [your Elohim](LXX)(SP) swore to your fathers, 19 to thrust out all your enemies from before you, as YHWH has spoken. 20 When your son asks you in time to come, saying, “What do the testimonies, the statutes, and the judgments, which YHWH our Elohim has commanded you mean?” 21 then you will tell your son, “We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt. YHWH brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand; 22 and YHWH showed great and awesome signs and wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his house, before our eyes; 23 and he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore to our fathers. 24 YHWH commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear YHWH our Elohim, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as we are today. 25 It will be [alms](LXX) to us, if we guard to do all these commandments before YHWH our Elohim, as he has commanded us.”
7:1 When YHWH your Elohim brings you into the land where you go to possess it, and casts out many nations before you—the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite—seven nations greater and mightier than you; 2 and when YHWH your Elohim delivers them up before you, and you strike them, then you will utterly destroy them. You will make no covenant with them, nor show grace to them. 3 You will not make marriages with them. You will not give your daughter to his son, nor will you take his daughter for your son. 4 For that would turn away your sons from following me, that [he](DSS)(LXX) may serve other elohim. So the anger of YHWH [your Elohim](DSS) would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly. 5 But you will deal with them like this: you will break down their altars, dash their pillars in pieces, cut down their Asherah poles, and burn their engraved images with fire. 6 For you are a holy people to YHWH your Elohim. YHWH your Elohim has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the land. 7 YHWH didn’t set his love on you nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples; 8 but because YHWH loves you, and because he desires to guard the oath which he swore to your fathers, YHWH has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 9 Know therefore that YHWH your Elohim himself is Elohim, the faithful El, who guards covenant and loving kindness to a thousand generations with those who love him and guard his commandments, 10 and repays those who hate him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack to him who hates him. He will repay him to his face. 11 You will therefore guard the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to do them. 12 It will happen, because you listen to these judgments and guard and do them, that YHWH your Elohim will guard with you the covenant and the loving kindness which he swore to your fathers. 13 He will love you, bless you, and multiply you. He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your livestock and the young of your flock, in the land which he swore to your fathers to give you. 14 You will be blessed above all peoples. There won’t be male or female barren among you, or among your livestock. 15 YHWH will take away from you all sickness; and he will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, [which you have seen and which](DSS) you have known, on you, but will lay them on all those who hate you. 16 You shall consume all the peoples whom YHWH your Elohim shall deliver to you. Your eye shall not pity them. You shall not serve their elohim; for that would be a snare to you. 17 If you will say in your heart, “These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?” 18 you will not be afraid of them. You will remember well what YHWH your Elohim did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt: 19 the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which YHWH your Elohim brought you out. So will YHWH your Elohim do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid. 20 Moreover YHWH your Elohim will send the hornet among them, until those who are left, and hide themselves, perish from before you. 21 You will not be scared of them; for YHWH your Elohim is among you, a great and awesome Elohim. 22 YHWH your Elohim will cast out those nations before you little by little. You may not consume them at once, lest the animals of the field increase on you. 23 But YHWH your Elohim will deliver them up before you, and will confuse them with a great confusion, until they are destroyed. 24 He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you will make their name perish from under the heavens. No one will be able to stand before you until you have destroyed them. 25 You will burn the engraved images of their elohim with fire. You will not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourself, lest you be snared in it; for it is an abomination to YHWH your Elohim. 26 You will not bring an abomination into your house and become a devoted thing like it. You will utterly detest it. You will utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing.
Prophets Portion (P)
Zechariah 14:1-9
14:1 Behold, a day of YHWH comes, when your plunder will be divided within you. 2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city will be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished. Half of the city will go out into captivity, and the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city. 3 Then YHWH will go out and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. 4 His feet will stand in that day on the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, making a very great valley. Half of the mountain will move toward the north, and half of it toward the south. 5 You will flee by the valley of my mountains, for the valley of the mountains will reach to Azel. Yes, you will flee, just like you fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. YHWH my Elohim will come, [and](LXX) all the holy ones with [him].(LXX) 6 It will happen in that day that there will not be light, cold, or frost. 7 It will be a unique day which is known to YHWH—not day, and not night; but it will come to pass that at evening time there will be light. 8 It will happen in that day that living waters will go out from Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea, and half of them toward the western sea. It will be so in summer and in winter. 9 YHWH will be King over all the land. In that day YHWH will be one, and his name one.
Apostolic Portion (A)
Mark 12:18-34
12:18 Some Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to him. They asked him, saying, 19 “Rabbi, Moses wrote to us, ‘If a man’s brother dies and leaves a woman behind him, and leaves no children, that his brother should take [the](mss) woman and raise up seed for his brother.’ 20 There were seven brothers. The first took a woman, and dying left no seed. 21 The second took her, and died, leaving no children behind him. The third likewise; 22 and the seven left no children. Last of all the woman also died. 23 In the resurrection, when they rise, whose woman will she be of them? For the seven had her as a woman.” 24 Yeshua [said](mss) to them, “Isn’t this because you are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of Elohim? 25 For when they will rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in the heavens. 26 But about the dead, that they are raised, haven’t you read in the book of Moses about the Bush, how Elohim spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob’? (cf. Exodus 3:6) 27 He is not the Elohim of the dead, but of the living. You are therefore badly mistaken.” 28 One of the scribes came and heard them questioning together, and [seeing](mss) that he had answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the greatest of all?” 29 Yeshua answered, “The greatest is: ‘Hear, Israel, the Lord our Elohim, the Lord is one. 30 You will love the Lord your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. 31 The second is like this: ‘You will love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” 32 The scribe said to him, “Truly, Rabbi, you have said well that he is one, and there is none other but he; 33 and to love him with all the heart, with all the understanding, all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more important than all whole burnt offerings and slaughters.” 34 When Yeshua saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the reign of Elohim.” No one dared ask him any question after that.

The Book of Baruch is named after Baruch ben Neriah, Jeremiah’s well-known scribe, who is mentioned at Baruch 1:1, and has been presumed to be the author of the whole work. Although not in the Hebrew Bible, it is found in the Septuagint, in the Eritrean/Ethiopian Orthodox Bible, and the Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox, and Russian Orthodox Churches. In some Bibles, Baruch chapter 6 is listed as a separate book called The Letter of Jeremiah, reflecting its separation from Baruch in some copies of the Greek Septuagint. Some scholars propose that it was written during or shortly after the period of the Maccabees. Although the earliest known manuscripts of Baruch are in Greek, linguistic features of the first parts of Baruch (1:1 – 3:8) have been proposed as indicating a translation from a Semitic language.
Baruch 3:9-28
3:9 Hear, Israel, the commandments of life: give ear to understand wisdom. 10 How is it, Israel, that you are in your enemies’ land, that you have become old in a strange country, that you are defiled with the dead, 11 that you are counted with those who go down into Hades? 12 You have forsaken the fountain of wisdom. 13 For if you had walked in the way of Elohim, you should have dwelled in peace forever. 14 Learn where is wisdom, where is strength, where is understanding; that you may know also where is length of days, and life, where is the light of the eyes, and peace. 15 Who has found out her place? and who has come into her treasuries? 16 Where are the princes of the heathen, and such as ruled the beasts that are upon the land; 17 those who had their pastime with the fowls of the air, and those who hoarded up silver and gold, wherein men trust; and of whose getting there is no end? 18 For those who diligently sought after silver, and were so careful, and whose works are past finding out, 19 they are vanished and gone down to Hades, and others are come up in their steads. 20 Younger men have seen the light, and lived upon the land: but the way of knowledge have they not known, 21 neither understood they the paths thereof: neither have their children embraced it: they are far off from the way thereof. 22 It has not been heard of in Canaan, neither has it been seen in Teman. 23 The sons also of Agar that seek understanding, which are in the land, the merchants of Merran and Teman, and the authors of fables, and the searchers out of understanding; none of these have known the way of wisdom, or remembered her paths. 24 Israel, how great is the house of Elohim! and how large is the place of his possession! 25 great, and has none end; high, and unmeasurable. 26 There were the giants born that were famous of old, great of stature, and expert in war. 27 Elohim didn’t choose these, nor did he give the way of knowledge to them; 28 so they perished, because they had no wisdom, they perished through their own foolishness.

Psalms 82:1 A Psalm by Asaph. Elohim presides in the assembly of elohim. He judges among elohim. 2 “How long will you judge unjustly, and show partiality to the wicked?” Selah. 3 “Judge for the helpless and the fatherless. Do righteousness to the afflicted and dispossessed. 4 Rescue the helpless and needy. Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.” 5 They don’t know, neither do they understand. They walk back and forth in darkness. All the foundations of the earth are shaken. 6 I said, “You are elohim, all of you are sons of the Most High. 7 Nevertheless you will die like men, and fall like one of the rulers.” 8 Arise, Elohim, judge the earth, for you inherit all of the nations.
John 10:31 Therefore the Judeans took up stones again to stone him. 32 Yeshua answered them, “I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of those works do you stone me?” 33 The Judeans answered him, “We don’t stone you for a good work, but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself Elohim.” 34 Yeshua answered them, “Isn’t it written in your law, ‘I said, you are elohim?’ 35 If he called them elohim, to whom the word of Elohim came, and the Scripture can’t be broken, 36 do you say of him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You blaspheme,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of Elohim?’ 37 If I don’t do the works of my Father, don’t believe me. 38 But if I do them, though you don’t believe me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”

Deuteronomy 4:33 Did a people ever hear the voice of [the living](LXX) Elohim speaking out of the middle of the fire, as you have heard, and live? 34 Or has Elohim tried to go and take a nation for himself from among another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, by war, by a mighty hand, by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that YHWH your Elohim did for you in Egypt before your eyes? 35 It was shown to you so that you might know that YHWH is Elohim. 1 Kings 8:23 and he said, “YHWH, the Elohim of Israel, there is no Elohim like you, in the heavens above, or on land beneath; who guards covenant and loving kindness with your servants who walk before you with all their heart; 24 who has kept with your servant David my father that which you promised him. Hear all of the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to defy the living Elohim. 18 Truly, YHWH, the kings of Assyria have destroyed all the countries and their land, 19 and have cast their elohim into the fire; for they were no elohim, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them. 20 Now therefore, YHWH our Elohim, save us from his hand, that all the reigns of the land may know that you are YHWH, even you only.”

Daniel 7:9-22; 1 Corinthians 15:20-28 (T)
Daniel 7:9 “I watched until thrones were placed, and one who was Ancient of Days sat. His clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool. His throne was fiery flames, and its wheels burning fire. 10 A fiery stream issued and came out from before him. Thousands of thousands ministered to him. Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The judgment was set. The books were opened. 11 “I watched at that time because of the voice of the arrogant words which the horn spoke. I watched even until the animal was slain, and its body destroyed, and it was given to be burned with fire. 12 As for the rest of the animals, their dominion was taken away; yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time. 13 “I saw in the night visions, and behold, there came with the clouds of the heavens one like a son of man, and he came even to the Ancient of Days, and they brought him near before him. 14 Dominion was given him, and glory, and a reign, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which will not pass away, and his reign one that will not be destroyed. 15 “As for me, Daniel, my spirit was grieved within my body, and the visions of my head troubled me. 16 I came near to one of those who stood by, and asked him the truth concerning all this. “So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things. 17 ‘These great animals, which are four, are four kings, who will arise out of the earth. 18 But the saints of the Most High will receive the reign, and possess the reign forever, even forever and ever.’ 19 “Then I desired to know the truth concerning the fourth animal, which was different from all of them, exceedingly terrible, whose teeth were of iron, and its nails of bronze; which devoured, broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet; 20 and concerning the ten horns that were on its head and the other horn which came up, and before which three fell, even that horn that had eyes and a mouth that spoke arrogantly, whose look was more stout than its fellows. 21 I saw, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them, 22 until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the Most High, and the time came that the saints possessed the reign.
1 Corinthians 15:20 But now Messiah has been raised from the dead. He became the first fruit of those who are asleep. 21 For since death came by man, the resurrection of the dead also came by man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Messiah all will be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Messiah the first fruits, then those who are Messiah’s at his coming. 24 Then the end comes, when he will deliver up the Reign to Elohim the Father, when he will have abolished all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death. 27 For, “He put all things in subjection under his feet.” (cf. Psalms 8:6) But when he says, “All things are put in subjection”, it is evident that he is excepted who subjected all things to him. 28 When all things have been subjected to him, then the Son will also himself be subjected to him who subjected all things to him, that Elohim may be all in all.
John 17:1-26 (T)
17:1 Yeshua said these things, then lifting up his eyes to the heavens, he said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may also glorify you; 2 even as you gave him authority over all flesh, so he will give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true Elohim, and him whom you sent, Yeshua the Messiah. 4 I glorified you on the land. I have accomplished the work which you have given me to do. 5 Now, Father, glorify me with your own self with the glory which I had with you before the world existed. 6 “I revealed your name to the people whom you have given me out of the world. They were yours, and you have given them to me. They have kept your word. 7 Now they have known that all things whatever you have given me are from you, 8 for the words which you have given me I have given to them; and they received them, and knew for sure that I came from you. They have believed that you sent me. 9 I pray for them. I don’t pray for the world, but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All things that are mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, guard them through your name which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name. I have kept those whom you have given me. None of them is lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to you, and I say these things in the world, that they may have my joy made full in themselves. 14 I have given them your word. The world hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I pray not that you would take them from the world, but that you would guard them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in your truth. Your word is truth. (cf. Psalms 119:142) 18 As you sent me into the world, even so I have sent them into the world. 19 For their sakes I sanctify myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth. 20 “Not for these only do I pray, but for those also who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you sent me. 22 The glory which you have given me, I have given to them, that they may be one, even as we are one, 23 I in them, and you in me, that they may be perfected into one, that the world may know that you sent me and loved them, even as you loved me. 24 Father, I desire that they also whom you have given me be with me where I am, that they may see my glory which you have given me, for you loved me before the foundation of the world. 25 Righteous Father, the world hasn’t known you, but I knew you; and these knew that you sent me. 26 I made known to them your name, and will make it known; that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
1 Corinthians 8:1-7 (T)
8:1 Now concerning things slaughtered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 2 But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he doesn’t yet know as he ought to know. 3 But anyone who loves Elohim is known by him. 4 Therefore concerning the eating of things slaughtered to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no other Elohim but one. 5 For though there are things that are called “elohim”, whether in the heavens or on land—as there are many “elohim” and many “lords”— 6 yet to us there is one Elohim, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Yeshua the Messiah, through whom are all things, and we live through him. 7 However, that knowledge isn’t in all men. But some, with consciousness of an idol until now, eat as of a thing slaughtered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
Matthew 22:23-40 (T, A)
22:23 On that day Sadducees (those who say that there is no resurrection) came to him. They asked him, 24 saying, “Rabbi, Moses said, ‘If a man dies, having no children, his brother will marry his wife and raise up seed for his brother.’ 25 Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no seed left his wife to his brother. 26 In the same way, the second also, and the third, to the seventh. 27 After them all, the woman died. 28 In the resurrection therefore, whose woman will she be of the seven? For they all had her.” 29 But Yeshua answered them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of Elohim. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like Elohim’s angels in the heavens. 31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven’t you read that which was spoken to you by Elohim, saying, 32 ‘I am the Elohim of Abraham, and the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob?’ (cf. Exodus 3:6) Elohim is not the Elohim of the dead, but of the living.” 33 When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching. 34 But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together. 35 One of them, a Torah scholar, asked him a question, testing him. 36 “Rabbi, which is the greatest commandment in the law?” 37 Yeshua said to him, “ ‘You will love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ (cf. Deuteronomy 6:5) 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 A second likewise is this, ‘You will love your neighbor as yourself.’ (cf. Leviticus 19:18) 40 The whole Torah and the Prophets depend on these two commandments.”
Luke 10:23-28 (T, A)
10:3 Turning to the disciples, he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see, 24 for I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see the things which you see, and didn’t see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and didn’t hear them.” 25 Behold, a certain Torah scholar stood up and tested him, saying, “Rabbi, what will I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Torah? How do you read it?” 27 He answered, “You will love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; (cf. Deuteronomy 6:5) and your neighbor as yourself.” (cf. Leviticus 19:18) 28 He said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live.”
Deuteronomy 11:1, 13-14, 22; Deuteronomy 13:1-4; Deuteronomy 19:8-9 (T)

Deuteronomy 11:13 It will happen, if you will listen diligently to my commandments which I command you today, to love YHWH your Elohim, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, 14 that I will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil.
Deuteronomy 11:22 For if you will diligently guard all these commandments which I command you—to do them [this day],(LXX) to love YHWH your Elohim, to walk in all his ways, and to cling to him—23 then YHWH will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.
Deuteronomy 13:1 If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, 2 and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, “Let’s go after other elohim,” which you have not known, “and let’s serve them,” 3 you will not listen to the words of that prophet, or to that dreamer of dreams; for YHWH your Elohim is testing you, to know whether you love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 You will walk after YHWH your Elohim, fear him, guard his commandments, and obey his voice. You will serve him, and cling to him.
Deuteronomy 19:8 If YHWH your Elohim enlarges your border, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers; 9 and if you guard all this commandment to do it, which I command you today, to love YHWH your Elohim, and to walk ever in his ways, then you will add three cities more for yourselves, in addition to these three.
Psalms 78:1-8; Psalms 145:1-5; Ephesians 6:4; (T)
Psalms 78:1 Hear my teaching, my people. Turn your ears to the words of my mouth. 2 I will open my mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings of old, 3 which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. 4 We will not hide them from their sons, telling to the generation to come the praises of YHWH, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done. 5 For he established a covenant in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their sons; 6 that the generation to come might know, even the sons who should be born; who should arise and tell their sons, 7 that they might set their hope in Elohim, and not forget Elohim’s deeds, but guard his commandments, 8 and might not be as their fathers— a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that didn’t make their hearts loyal, whose spirit was not steadfast with Elohim.
Psalms 145:1 I will exalt you, my Elohim, the King. I will praise your name forever and ever. 2 Every day I will praise you. I will extol your name forever and ever. 3 Great is YHWH, and greatly to be praised! His greatness is unsearchable. 4 One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts. 5 I will meditate on the glorious majesty of your honor, on your wondrous works.
Ephesians 6:4 You fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Psalms 1:1-2 (T)
1:1 Happy is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand on the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the Torah of YHWH. On his Torah he meditates day and night.
Proverbs 3:1-3; Proverbs 7:1-3 (T)
Proverbs 3:1 My son, don’t forget my teaching, but let your heart guard my commandments, 2 for they will add to you length of days, years of life, and peace. 3 Don’t let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Proverbs 7:1 My son, guard my words. Lay up my commandments within you. 2 Guard my commandments and live! Guard my teaching as the apple of your eye. 3 Bind them on your fingers. Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Matthew 23:1-5 (T)
23:1 Then Yeshua spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples, 2 saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat. 3 All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do. 4 For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them. 5 But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their tefillin broad and enlarge the fringes of their garments.”
Deuteronomy 8:6-10; Joshua 24:13 (T)
Deuteronomy 8:6 You will guard the commandments of YHWH your Elohim, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. 7 For YHWH your Elohim brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of springs, and underground water flowing into valleys and hills; 8 a land of wheat, barley, vines, fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of olive trees and honey; 9 a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, you will not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig copper. 10 You will eat and be full, and you will bless YHWH your Elohim for the good land which he has given you.
Joshua 24:13 I gave you a land on which you had not labored, and cities which you didn’t build, and you live in them. You eat of vineyards and olive groves which you didn’t plant.

1 Samuel 7:3 Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you are returning to YHWH with all your heart, then put away the foreign elohim and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to YHWH, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.”
Matthew 4:1-11; Luke 4:1-14 (T)
Matthew 4:1 Then Yeshua was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tested by the devil. 2 When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward. 3 The one testing came and said to him, “If you are the Son of Elohim, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man will not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of Elohim’s mouth.’ ” (cf. Deuteronomy 8:3) 5 Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to him, “If you are the Son of Elohim, throw yourself down, for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and, ‘On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don’t dash your foot against a stone.’ ” (cf. Psalms 91:11-12) 7 Yeshua said to him, “Again, it is written, ‘You will not test YHWH your Elohim.’ ”(cf. Deuteronomy 6:16) 8 Again, the devil took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the reigns of the world and their glory. 9 He said to him, “I will give you all of these things, if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Yeshua said to him, “Go away,(NU-Text) Satan! For it is written, ‘You will worship YHWH your Elohim, and you will serve him only.’ ” (cf. Deuteronomy 6:13) 11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and served him.
Luke 4:1 Yeshua, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tested by the devil. He ate nothing in those days. Afterward, when they were completed, he was hungry. 3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of Elohim, command this stone to become bread.” 4 Yeshua answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man will not live by bread alone, but by every word of Elohim.’ ” (cf. Deuteronomy 8:3) 5 The devil, leading him up on a high mountain, showed him all the reigns of the world in a moment of time. 6 The devil said to him, “I will give you all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I want. 7 If you therefore will worship before me, it will all be yours.” 8 Yeshua answered him, “It is written, ‘You will worship YHWH your Elohim, and you will serve him only.’ ” (cf. Deuteronomy 6:13) 9 He led him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of Elohim, cast yourself down from here, 10 for it is written, ‘He will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you;’ 11 and, ‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest perhaps you dash your foot against a stone.’ ” (cf. Psalms 91:11-12) 12 Yeshua answering, said to him, “It has been said, ‘You will not test YHWH your Elohim.’ ” (cf. Deuteronomy 6:16) 13 When the devil had completed every test, he departed from him until another time. 14 Yeshua returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee, and news about him spread through all the surrounding area. 15 He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
Exodus 20:1-6; Exodus 34:11-14; Deuteronomy 5:1-10 (T)
Exodus 20:1 Elohim spoke all these words, saying, 2 “I am YHWH your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Other elohim will not exist for you before my face. 4 You will not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the land beneath, or that is in the water under the land: 5 you will not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, YHWH your Elohim, am a zealous Elohim, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the sons, on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 and showing loving kindness to thousands of those who love me and guard my commandments.
Exodus 34:11 Guard that which I command you today. Behold, I will drive out before you the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 12 Guard yourself, lest you cut a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be for a snare among you; 13 but you will break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and you will cut down their Asherah poles; 14 for you will worship no other god; for YHWH, whose name is Zealous, is a zealous Elohim.
Deuteronomy 5:1 Moses called to all Israel, and said to them, “Hear, Israel, the statutes and the judgments which I speak in your ears [this day],(DSS) that you may learn them, and guard to do them.” 2 YHWH our Elohim cut a covenant with us in Horeb. 3 YHWH didn’t make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. 4 YHWH spoke with you face to face on the mountain out of the middle of the fire, 5 [But],(DSS) I stood between YHWH and you at that time, to show you YHWH’s [words];(DSS) for you were afraid because of the fire, and didn’t go up onto the mountain, saying, 6 “I am YHWH your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 7 “Other elohim will not exist for you before my face. 8 “Do not make a carved image for yourself—[or](DSS) any likeness of what is in the heavens above, or what is in the land beneath, or that is in the water under the land. 9 Do not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, YHWH your Elohim, am a zealous Elohim, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the sons and on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me 10 and showing loving kindness to thousands of those who love me and guard my commandments.
Exodus 17:1-7; Exodus 20:18-20; Deuteronomy 8:1-3, 16; Deuteronomy 33:8; Judges 2:21-22; Judges 3:1-4; Psalms 78:17-19, 40-41, 55-62; Psalms 95:1-11; Psalms 106:13-14; Isaiah 7:10-12; 1 Corinthians 10:13; Ya’aqov (James) 1:12-15 (T)
Exodus 17:1 All the congregation of the sons of Israel traveled from the wilderness of Sin, starting according to the commandment of YHWH, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink. 2 Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test YHWH?” 3 The people were thirsty for water there; so the people murmured against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our sons, and our livestock with thirst?” 4 Moses cried to YHWH, saying, “What will I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.” 5 YHWH said to Moses, “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb. You will strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 He called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because the sons of Israel quarreled, and because they tested YHWH, saying, “Is YHWH among us, or not?”
Exodus 20:18 All the people perceived the thunderings, the lightnings, the voice of the shofar, and the mountain smoking. When the people saw it, they trembled, and stayed at a distance. 19 They said to Moses, “Speak with us yourself, and we will listen; but don’t let Elohim speak with us, lest we die.” 20 Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid, for Elohim has come to test you, and that his fear may be before you, that you won’t sin.”
Deuteronomy 8:1 You will observe to do all the commandments which I command you today, that you may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which YHWH swore to your fathers. 2 You will remember all the way which YHWH your Elohim has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, to test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. 3 He humbled you, allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didn’t know, neither did your fathers know, that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of YHWH’s mouth… Deuteronomy 8:16 who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers didn’t know, that he might humble you, and that he might test you, to do you good at your latter end
Deuteronomy 33:8 About Levi he said, “Your Tummim and your Urim are with your pious man, whom you tested at Massah, with whom you contended at the waters of Meribah.
Judges 2:21 I also will no longer drive out any of the nations that Joshua left when he died from before them; 22 that by them I may test Israel, to see if they will keep YHWH’s way to walk therein, as their fathers kept it, or not.”
Judges 3:1 Now these are the nations which YHWH left, to test Israel by them, even as many as had not known all the wars of Canaan; 2 only that the generations of the sons of Israel might know, to teach them war, at least those who knew nothing of it before: 3 the five lords of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites who lived on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon to the entrance of Hamath. 4 They were left to test Israel by them, to know whether they would listen to the commandments of YHWH, which he commanded their fathers by Moses.
Psalms 78:17 Yet they still went on to sin against him, to rebel against the Most High in the desert. 18 They tested Elohim in their heart by asking food according to their desire. 19 Yes, they spoke against Elohim. They said, “Can Elohim prepare a table in the wilderness? … Psalms 78:40 How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert! 41 They turned again and tested Elohim, and provoked the Holy One of Israel. … Psalms 78:55 He also drove out the nations before them, allotted them for an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents. 56 Yet they tested and rebelled against the Most High Elohim, and didn’t keep his testimonies, 57 but turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers. They were twisted like a deceitful bow. 58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and made him to zealous with their engraved images. 59 When Elohim heard this, he was angry, and greatly abhorred Israel, 60 so that he abandoned the tent of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men, 61 and delivered his strength into captivity, his glory into the adversary’s hand. 62 He also gave his people over to the sword, and was angry with his inheritance.
Psalms 95:1 Oh come, let’s sing to YHWH. Let’s shout aloud to the rock of our salvation! 2 Let’s come before his face with thanksgiving. Let’s extol him with songs! 3 For YHWH is a great Elohim, a great King above all elohim. 4 In his hand are the deep places of the land. The heights of the mountains are also his. 5 The sea is his, and he made it. His hands formed the dry land. 6 Oh come, let’s worship and bow down. Let’s kneel before YHWH, our Maker, 7 for he is our Elohim. We are the people of his pasture, and the sheep in his care. Today, oh that you would hear his voice! 8 Don’t harden your heart, as at Meribah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness, 9 when your fathers tested me, tested me, and saw my work. 10 Forty long years I was grieved with that generation, and said, “It is a people that errs in their heart. They have not known my ways.” 11 Therefore I swore in my wrath, “They won’t enter into my rest.”
Psalms 106:13 They soon forgot his works. They didn’t wait for his counsel, 14 but gave in to craving in the desert, and tested Elohim in the wasteland.
Isaiah 7:10 YHWH spoke again to Ahaz, saying, 11 “Ask a sign of YHWH your Elohim; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.” 12 But Ahaz said, “I won’t ask. I won’t try YHWH.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 No test has taken you except what is common to man. Elohim is faithful, who will not allow you to be tested above what you are able, but will with the test also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Ya’aqov (James) 1:12 Blessed is a person who endures testing, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him. 13 Let no man say when he is tested, “From Elohim I am tested,” for Elohim is beyond testing by evils, and he himself tests no one. 14 But each one is tested when he is drawn away by his own coveting and enticed. 15 Then the coveting, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death.
Joshua 23:1-8 (T)
23:1 After many days, when YHWH had given rest to Israel from their enemies all around, and Joshua was old and well advanced in years, 2 Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said to them, “I am old and well advanced in years. 3 You have seen all that YHWH your Elohim has done to all these nations because of you; for it is YHWH your Elohim who has fought for you. 4 Behold, I have allotted to you these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even to the great sea toward the going down of the sun. 5 YHWH your Elohim will thrust them out from before you, and drive them from out of your sight. You will possess their land, as YHWH your Elohim spoke to you. 6 “Therefore be very courageous to guard and to do all that is written in the book of the Torah of Moses, that you not turn away from it to the right hand or to the left; 7 that you not come among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their elohim, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow down yourselves to them; 8 but hold fast to YHWH your Elohim, as you have done to this day.
Deuteronomy 20:1-18 (T)
20:1 When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses, chariots, and a people more numerous than you, you will not be afraid of them; for YHWH your Elohim, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt, is with you. 2 It will be, when you draw near to the battle, that the priest will approach and speak to the people, 3 and will tell them, “Hear, Israel, you draw near today to battle against your enemies. Don’t let your heart faint! Don’t be afraid, nor tremble, neither be scared of them; 4 for YHWH your Elohim is he who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.” 5 The officers will speak to the people, saying, “What man is there who has built a new house, and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it. 6 What man is there who has planted a vineyard, and has not used its fruit? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man use its fruit. 7 What man is there who has betrothed to a woman, and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.” 8 The officers will speak further to the people, and they will say, “What man is there who is fearful and faint-hearted? Let him go and return to his house, lest his brother’s heart melt as his heart.” 9 It will be, when the officers have finished speaking to the people, that they will appoint captains of armies at the head of the people. 10 When you draw near to a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace to it. 11 It will be, if it gives you answer of peace and opens to you, then it will be that all the people who are found therein will become forced laborers to you, and will serve you. 12 If it will make no peace with you, but will make war against you, then you will besiege it. 13 When YHWH your Elohim delivers it into your hand, you will strike every male of it with the edge of the sword; 14 but the women, the little ones, the livestock, and all that is in the city, even all its plunder, you will take for plunder for yourself. You may use the plunder of your enemies, which YHWH your Elohim has given you. 15 Thus you will do to all the cities which are very far off from you, which are not of the cities of these nations. 16 But of the cities of these peoples that YHWH your Elohim gives you for an inheritance, you will save alive nothing that breathes; 17 but you will utterly destroy them: the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, as YHWH your Elohim has commanded you; 18 that they not teach you to follow all their abominations, which they have done for their elohim; so would you sin against YHWH your Elohim.
Deuteronomy 31:1-6 (T)
31:1 Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel. 2 He said to them, “I am one hundred twenty years old today. I can no more go out and come in. YHWH has said to me, ‘You will not go over this Jordan.’ 3 YHWH your Elohim himself will go over before you. He will destroy these nations from before you, and you will dispossess them. Joshua will go over before you, as YHWH has spoken. 4 YHWH will do to them as he did to Sihon and to Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land, when he destroyed them. 5 YHWH will deliver them up before you, and you will do to them according to all the commandment which I have commanded you. 6 Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them, for YHWH your Elohim himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”
Exodus 23:20-33 (T)
23:20 “Behold, I send an angel before you, to guard you by the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. 21 Pay attention to him, and listen to his voice. Don’t provoke him, for he will not pardon your disobedience, for my name is in him. 22 But if you indeed listen to his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries. 23 For my angel will go before you, and bring you in to the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I will cut them off. 24 You will not bow down to their elohim, nor serve them, nor follow their practices, but you will utterly overthrow them and demolish their pillars. 25 You will serve YHWH your Elohim, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you. 26 No one will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will fulfill the number of your days. 27 I will send my terror before you, and will confuse all the people to whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. 28 I will send the hornet before you, which will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before you. 29 I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate, and the animals of the field multiply against you. 30 Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and inherit the land. 31 I will set your border from the Red Sea even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out before you. 32 You will make no covenant with them, nor with their elohim. 33 They will not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me, for if you serve their elohim, it will surely be a snare to you.”
Exodus 34:12-17; Numbers 33:50-53; Joshua 11:1-15 (T)
Exodus 34:12 Be careful, lest you cut a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be for a snare among you; 13 but you will break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and you will cut down their Asherah poles; 14 for you will worship no other god; for YHWH, whose name is Zealous, is a zealous Elohim. 15 “Don’t cut a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, lest they whore after their elohim, and slaughter to their elohim, and one call you and you eat of his slaughter; 16 and you take of their daughters to your sons, and their daughters whore after their elohim, and make your sons whore after their elohim. 17 “You will make no cast idols for yourselves.
Numbers 33:50 YHWH spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying, 51 Speak to the sons of Israel, and tell them, “When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 52 then you will drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, destroy all their stone idols, destroy all their molten images, and demolish all their high places. 53 You will take possession of the land, and dwell therein; for I have given the land to you to possess it.
Joshua 11:1 When Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph, 2 and to the kings who were on the north, in the hill country, in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west, 3 to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite in the hill country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah. 4 They went out, they and all their armies with them, many people, even as the sand that is on the seashore in multitude, with very many horses and chariots. 5 All these kings met together; and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel. 6 YHWH said to Joshua, “Don’t be afraid because of them; for tomorrow at this time, I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You will hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.” 7 So Joshua came suddenly, with all the warriors, against them by the waters of Merom, and attacked them. 8 YHWH delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they struck them, and chased them to great Sidon, and to Misrephoth Maim, and to the valley of Mizpah eastward. They struck them until they left them no one remaining. 9 Joshua did to them as YHWH told him. He hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire. 10 Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and struck its king with the sword; for Hazor used to be the head of all those reigns. 11 They struck all the souls who were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was no one left who breathed. He burned Hazor with fire. 12 Joshua captured all the cities of those kings, with their kings, and he struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of YHWH commanded. 13 But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, except Hazor only. Joshua burned that. 14 The sons of Israel took all the plunder of these cities, with the livestock, as plunder for themselves; but every man they struck with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them. They didn’t leave any who breathed. 15 As YHWH commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua. Joshua did so. He left nothing undone of all that YHWH commanded Moses.
Joshua 9:1-27 (T)
9:1 When all the kings who were beyond the Jordan, in the hill country, and in the lowland, and on all the shore of the great sea in front of Lebanon, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard of it 2 they gathered themselves together to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord. 3 But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai, 4 they also resorted to a ruse, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks on their donkeys, and old, torn-up and bound up wine skins, 5 and old and patched sandals on their feet, and wore old garments. All the bread of their food supply was dry and moldy. 6 They went to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel, “We have come from a far country. Now therefore cut a covenant with us.” 7 The men of Israel said to the Hivites, “What if you live among us? How could we cut a covenant with you?” 8 They said to Joshua, “We are your servants.” Joshua said to them, “Who are you? Where do you come from?” 9 They said to him, “Your servants have come from a very far country because of the name of YHWH your Elohim; for we have heard of his fame, all that he did in Egypt, 10 and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon and to Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth. 11 Our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, ‘Take supplies in your hand for the journey, and go to meet them. Tell them, “We are your servants. Now cut a covenant with us.” ‘ 12 This our bread we took hot for our supplies out of our houses on the day we went out to go to you; but now, behold, it is dry, and has become moldy. 13 These wine skins, which we filled, were new; and behold, they are torn. These our garments and our sandals have become old because of the very long journey.” 14 The men sampled their provisions, and didn’t ask counsel from YHWH’s mouth. 15 Joshua made peace with them, and cut a covenant with them, to let them live. The princes of the congregation swore to them. 16 At the end of three days after they had cut a covenant with them, they heard that they were their neighbors, and that they lived among them. 17 The sons of Israel traveled and came to their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath Jearim. 18 The sons of Israel didn’t strike them, because the princes of the congregation had sworn to them by YHWH, the Elohim of Israel. All the congregation murmured against the princes. 19 But all the princes said to all the congregation, “We have sworn to them by YHWH, the Elohim of Israel. Now therefore we may not touch them. 20 We will do this to them, and let them live; lest wrath be on us, because of the oath which we swore to them.” 21 The princes said to them, “Let them live.” So they became wood cutters and drawers of water for all the congregation, as the princes had spoken to them. 22 Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying, “Why have you deceived us, saying, ‘We are very far from you,’ when you live among us? 23 Now therefore you are cursed, and some of you will never fail to be slaves, both wood cutters and drawers of water for the house of my Elohim.” 24 They answered Joshua, and said, “Because your servants were certainly told how YHWH your Elohim commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing. 25 Now, behold, we are in your hand. Do to us as it seems good and right to you to do.” 26 He did so to them, and delivered them out of the hand of the sons of Israel, so that they didn’t kill them. 27 That day Joshua made them wood cutters and drawers of water for the congregation and for the altar of YHWH to this day, in the place which he should choose.
Judges 2:1-23 (T)
2:1 the angel of YHWH came up from Gilgal to Bochim. He said, “I brought you out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to give your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you. 2 You will make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You will break down their altars.’ But you have not listened to my voice. Why have you done this? 3 Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out from before you; but they will be in your sides, and their elohim will be a snare to you.’ ” 4 When the angel of YHWH spoke these words to all the sons of Israel, the people lifted up their voice and wept. 5 They called the name of that place Bochim, and they slaughtered there to YHWH. 6 Now when Joshua had sent the people away, the sons of Israel each went to his inheritance to possess the land. 7 The people served YHWH all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of YHWH that he had worked for Israel. 8 Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of YHWH, died, being one hundred ten years old. 9 They buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath Heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash. 10 After all that generation were gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who didn’t know YHWH, nor the work which he had done for Israel. 11 The sons of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of YHWH, and served the Ba’alim. 12 They abandoned YHWH, the Elohim of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other elohim, of the elohim of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; and they provoked YHWH to anger. 13 They abandoned YHWH, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth. 14 the anger of YHWH burned against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies. 15 Wherever they went out, the hand of YHWH was against them for evil, as YHWH had spoken, and as YHWH had sworn to them; and they were very distressed. 16 YHWH raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them. 17 Yet they didn’t listen to their judges; for they prostituted themselves to other elohim, and bowed themselves down to them. They quickly turned away from the way in which their fathers walked, obeying the commandments of YHWH. They didn’t do so. 18 When YHWH raised up judges for them, then YHWH was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it grieved YHWH because of their groaning by reason of those who oppressed them and troubled them. 19 But when the judge was dead, they turned back, and dealt more corruptly than their fathers in following other elohim to serve them and to bow down to them. They didn’t cease what they were doing, or give up their stubborn ways. 20 the anger of YHWH burned against Israel; and he said, “Because this nation transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not listened to my voice, 21 I also will no longer drive out any of the nations that Joshua left when he died from before them; 22 that by them I may test Israel, to see if they will guard YHWH’s way to walk therein, as their fathers kept it, or not.” 23 So YHWH left those nations, without driving them out hastily. He didn’t deliver them into Joshua’s hand.
Exodus 34:11-17; Judges 3:5-9; Ezra 9:10-12; Nehemiah 10:28-31 (T)
Exodus 34:11 Guard that which I command you today. Behold, I will drive out before you the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 12 Guard yourself, lest you cut a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be for a snare among you; 13 but you will break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and you will cut down their Asherah poles; 14 for you will worship no other god; for YHWH, whose name is Zealous, is a zealous Elohim.
Judges 3:5 The sons of Israel lived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 6 They took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their elohim. 7 The sons of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of YHWH, and forgot YHWH their Elohim, and served the Ba’alim and the Asheroth. 8 Therefore the anger of YHWH burned against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the sons of Israel served Cushan Rishathaim eight years. 9 When the sons of Israel cried to YHWH, YHWH raised up a savior to the sons of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.
Ezra 9:10 “Now, our Elohim, what will we say after this? For we have forsaken your commandments, 11 which you have commanded by your servants the prophets, saying, ‘The land to which you go to possess is an unclean land through the uncleanness of the peoples of the lands, through their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their filthiness. 12 Now therefore don’t give your daughters to their sons. Don’t take their daughters to your sons, nor seek their peace or their prosperity forever, that you may be strong and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your sons forever.’
Nehemiah 10:28 The rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants, and all those who had separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Torah of Elohim, their wives, their sons, and their daughters—everyone who had knowledge and understanding— 29 joined with their brothers, their nobles, and entered into an oath and into a vow, to walk in Elohim’s Torah, which was given by Moses the servant of Elohim, and to observe and do all the commandments of YHWH our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes; 30 and that we would not give our daughters to the peoples of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons; 31 and if the peoples of the land bring wares or any grain on the Sabbath day to sell, that we would not buy from them on the Sabbath, or on a holy day; and that we would forego the seventh year crops and the exaction of every debt.
1 Kings 11:1-14 (T)
11:1 Now King Solomon loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites, 2 of the nations concerning which YHWH said to the sons of Israel, “You will not go among them, neither will they come among you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their elohim.” Solomon joined to these in love. 3 He had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines. His wives turned his heart away. 4 When Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other elohim; and his heart was not perfect with YHWH his Elohim, as the heart of David his father was. 5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 6 Solomon did that which was evil in the sight of YHWH, and didn’t go fully after YHWH, as David his father did. 7 Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the mountain that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the sons of Ammon. 8 So he did for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and slaughtered to their elohim. 9 YHWH was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from YHWH, the Elohim of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, 10 and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other elohim; but he didn’t guard that which YHWH commanded. 11 Therefore YHWH said to Solomon, “Because this is done by you, and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the reign from you, and will give it to your servant. 12 Nevertheless, I will not do it in your days, for David your father’s sake; but I will tear it out of your son’s hand. 13 However, I will not tear away all the reign; but I will give one tribe to your son, for David my servant’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake which I have chosen.” 14 YHWH raised up an adversary to Solomon: Hadad the Edomite. He was one of the king’s seed in Edom.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18 (T)
6:14 Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship do righteousness and iniquity have? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? 15 What agreement does Messiah have with Belial? Or what portion does a believer have with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement does a temple of Elohim have with idols? For you are a temple of the living Elohim. Even as Elohim said, “I will dwell in them and walk in them. I will be their Elohim and they will be my people.” 17 Therefore Come out from among them, and be separate,’ says the Lord. ‘Touch no unclean thing. I will receive you. 18 I will be to you a Father. You will be to me sons and daughters,’ says the Lord Almighty.”

Deuteronomy 14:2 For you are a holy people to YHWH your Elohim, and YHWH has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the land.
Deuteronomy 26:16 Today YHWH your Elohim commands you to do these statutes and judgments. You will therefore guard and do them with all your heart and with all your soul. 17 You have declared today that YHWH is your Elohim, and that you would walk in his ways, guard his statutes, his commandments, and his judgments, and listen to his voice. 18 YHWH has declared today that you are a people for his own possession, as he has promised you, and that you should guard all his commandments. 19 He will make you high above all nations that he has made, in praise, in name, and in honor, and that you may be a holy people to YHWH your Elohim, as he has spoken.
Deuteronomy 28:9 YHWH will establish you for a holy people to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you will guard the commandments of YHWH your Elohim, and walk in his ways. 10 All the peoples of the land will see that you are called by YHWH’s name, and they will be afraid of you.
1 Kings 8:53 For you separated them from among all the peoples of the land to be your inheritance, as you spoke by Moses your servant, when you brought our fathers out of Egypt, Lord YHWH.”

Isaiah 41:8 “But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend, 9 you whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the land, and called from its corners, and said to you, ‘You are my servant. I have chosen you and have not cast you away.’ 10 Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your Elohim. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the Elohim and Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Messiah, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and without defect before him in love, 5 having predestined us for adoption as children through Yeshua the Messiah to himself, according to the good pleasure of his desire, 6 to the praise of the glory of his grace, by which he freely gave us favor in the Beloved. 7 In him we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace 8 which he made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he purposed in him 10 to an administration of the fullness of the times, to sum up all things in Messiah, the things in the heavens and the things on the land, in him. 11 We were also assigned an inheritance in him, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who does all things after the counsel of his will, 12 to the end that we should be to the praise of his glory, we who had before hoped in Messiah. 13 In him you also, having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your salvation—in whom, having also believed, you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a pledge of our inheritance, to the redemption of Elohim’s own possession, to the praise of his glory.
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for Elohim’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 In the past, you were not a people, but now are Elohim’s people, who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 11 Beloved, I beg you as foreigners and pilgrims to abstain from fleshly coveting which war against the soul, 12 having good behavior among the nations, so in that of which they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good works and glorify Elohim in the day of inspection.
Isaiah 63:7-19 (T)
63:7 I will tell of the loving kindnesses of YHWH and the praises of YHWH, according to all that YHWH has given to us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he has given to them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses. 8 For he said, “Surely, they are my people, sons who will not deal falsely;” so he became their Savior. 9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his face saved them. In his love and in his pity he redeemed them. He bore them, and carried them all the days of old. 10 But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. Therefore he turned and became their enemy, and he himself fought against them. 11 Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and his people, saying, “Where is he who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is he who put his Holy Spirit among them?” 12 Who caused his glorious arm to be at Moses’ right hand? Who divided the waters before them, to make himself an everlasting name? 13 Who led them through the depths, like a horse in the wilderness, so that they didn’t stumble? 14 As the livestock that go down into the valley, the spirit of YHWH caused them to rest. So you led your people to make yourself a glorious name. 15 Look down from the heavens, and see from the habitation of your holiness and of your glory. Where are your zeal and your mighty acts? The yearning of your heart and your compassion is restrained toward me. 16 For you are our Father, though Abraham doesn’t know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us. You, YHWH, are our Father. Our Redeemer from everlasting is your name. 17 O YHWH, why do you make us wander from your ways, and harden our heart from your fear? Return for your servants’ sake, the tribes of your inheritance. 18 Your holy people possessed it but a little while. Our adversaries have trodden down your sanctuary. 19 We have become like those over whom you never ruled, like those who were not called by your name.
Deuteronomy 10:12-17 (T)
10:12 Now, Israel, what does YHWH your Elohim require of you, but to fear YHWH your Elohim, to walk in all his ways, to love him, and to serve YHWH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 to guard the commandments of YHWH and statutes, which I command you today for your good? 14 Behold, to YHWH your Elohim belongs the heavens, the heavens of the heavens, and the land, with all that is therein. 15 Only YHWH had a delight in your fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all peoples, as it is today. 16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiff-necked. 17 For YHWH your Elohim, he is Elohim of Elohim and Lord of lords, the great Elohim, the mighty, and the awesome, who doesn’t respect persons or take bribes.

Psalms 103:15 As for man, his days are like grass. As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. 16 For the wind passes over it, and it is gone. Its place remembers it no more. 17 But YHWH’s loving kindness is from everlasting to everlasting with those who fear him, his righteousness to son’s sons, 18 to those who guard his covenant, to those who remember to obey his precepts.
Daniel 9:4 I prayed to YHWH my Elohim, and made confession, and said, “Oh, Lord, the great and dreadful Elohim, who guards covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and guard his commandments, 5 we have sinned, and have dealt perversely, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even turning aside from your precepts and from your judgments. 6 We haven’t listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
Nahum 1:2-3 (T)
1:2 YHWH is a zealous Elohim and avenges. YHWH avenges and is full of wrath. YHWH takes vengeance on his adversaries, and he maintains wrath against his enemies. 3 YHWH is slow to anger, and great in power, and will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. YHWH has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

Deuteronomy 28:1 It will happen, if you will listen diligently to YHWH your Elohim’s voice, to observe to do all his commandments which I command you today, that YHWH your Elohim will set you high above all the nations of the land. 2 All these blessings will come upon you, and overtake you, if you listen to YHWH your Elohim’s voice.
Deuteronomy 29:1-6 (T)
29:1 These are the words of the covenant which YHWH commanded Moses to make with the sons of Israel in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant which he made with them in Horeb. 2 Moses called to all Israel, and said to them: Your eyes have seen all that YHWH did in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land; 3 the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders. 4 But YHWH has not given you a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day. 5 I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not grown old on you, and your sandals have not grown old on your feet. 6 You have not eaten bread, neither have you drunk wine or strong drink, that you may know that I am YHWH your Elohim.
Joshua 24:11-12 (T)
24:11 You went over the Jordan, and came to Jericho. The men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I delivered them into your hand. 12 I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; not with your sword, nor with your bow.
Zechariah 14:1-21 (P)
YHWH my Elohim will come, and all the holy ones with [him].(LXX) 6 It will happen in that day that there will not be light, cold, or frost. 10 All the land will be made like the Arabah, from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem; and she will be lifted up and will dwell in her place, from Benjamin’s gate to the place of the first gate, to the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananel to the king’s wine presses. 11 Men will dwell therein, and there will be no more curse; but Jerusalem will dwell safely. 12 This will be the plague with which YHWH will strike all the peoples who have fought against Jerusalem: their flesh will consume away while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will consume away in their sockets, and their tongue will consume away in their mouth. 13 It will happen in that day that a great panic from YHWH will be among them; and they will each seize the hand of his neighbor, and his hand will rise up against the hand of his neighbor. 14 Judah also will fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be gathered together: gold, silver, and clothing, in great abundance. 15 A plague like this will fall on the horse, on the mule, on the camel, on the donkey, and on all the animals that will be in those camps. 16 It will happen that everyone who is left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, YHWH of Armies, and to celebrate the feast of booths. 17 It will be that whoever of all the families of the land doesn’t go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, YHWH of Armies, on them there will be no rain. 18 If the family of Egypt doesn’t go up and doesn’t come, neither will it rain on them. This will be the plague with which YHWH will strike the nations that don’t go up to celebrate the feast of booths. 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that don’t go up to celebrate the feast of booths. 20 In that day there will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, “HOLY TO YHWH”; and the pots in YHWH’s house will be like the bowls before the altar. 21 Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be holy to YHWH of Armies; and all those who slaughter will come and take of them, and cook in them. In that day there will no longer be a Canaanite in the house of YHWH of Armies.

Enoch 71:1-13 (T)
The Book of Enoch (also known as 1 Enoch) was written during the second century B.C. The older sections (mainly in the Book of the Watchers) of the text are estimated to date from about 300–200 B.C., and the latest part (Book of Parables) probably to 100 B.C. Various Aramaic fragments found in the Dead Sea Scrolls, as well as Koine Greek and Latin fragments, were proof that The Book of Enoch was known by early Jews and Christians.
71:1 And it came to pass after this that my spirit was translated And it ascended into the heavens: And I saw the holy sons of Elohim. They were stepping on flames of fire: Their garments were white [and their raiment], And their faces shone like snow. 2. And I saw two streams of fire, And the light of that fire shone like hyacinth, And I fell on my face before the Lord of Spirits. 3. And the angel Michael [one of the archangels] seized me by my right hand, And lifted me up and led me forth into all the secrets, And he showed me all the secrets of righteousness. 4. And he showed me all the secrets of the ends of the heavens, And all the chambers of all the stars, and all the luminaries, Whence they proceed before the face of the holy ones. 5. And he translated my spirit into the heavens of the heavens, And I saw there as it were a structure built of crystals, And between those crystals tongues of living fire. 6. And my spirit saw the girdle which girt that house of fire, And on its four sides were streams full of living fire, And they girt that house. 7. And round about were Seraphin, Cherubic, and Ophannin: And these are they who sleep not And guard the throne of His glory. 8. And I saw angels who could not be counted, A thousand thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand, Encircling that house. And Michael, and Raphael, and Gabriel, and Phanuel, And the holy angels who are above the heavens, Go in and out of that house. 9. And they came forth from that house, And Michael and Gabriel, Raphael and Phanuel, And many holy angels without number. 10. And with them the Head of Days, His head white and pure as wool, And His raiment indescribable. 11. And I fell on my face, And my whole body became relaxed, And my spirit was transfigured; And I cried with a loud voice, . . .with the spirit of power, And blessed and glorified and extolled. 12. And these blessings which went forth out of my mouth were well pleasing before that Head of Days. 13. And that Head of Days came with Michael and Gabriel, Raphael and Phanuel, thousands and ten thousands of angels without number.
1 Maccabees 1:10-15 (T)
1 and 2 Maccabees are set during the reign of the Seleucid Greek empire (the part of the Greek empire that found its roots in Syria). It tells the story of how the Greek ruler Antiochus IV Epiphanes attested to suppress Temple worship and to destroy the practice of Jewish law. This caused the Maccabean revolt, led by Mattathias and his sons. As a part of the revolt, the Temple was freed from the control of the Greek empire and rededicated (an act that is still commemorated yearly in the festival of Hanukkah). The Maccabees then ruled over Israel, first as High Priests and then as High Priests and Princes of Israel.
1 Maccabees follows this story until the death of Shimon (the third son of Mattathias to rule over Israel) at the hands of the Egyptian Greeks (from about 175-134 B.C.).
1:10 There came out of them a sinful root, Antiochus Epiphanes, son of Antiochus the king, who had been a hostage at Rome, and he reigned in the one hundred thirty seventh year of the reign of the Greeks. 11 In those days transgressors of the law came out of Israel and persuaded many, saying, let’s go cut a covenant with the Nations around us; for since we were separated from them many evils have befallen us. 12 That proposal was good in their eyes. 13 Some of the people eagerly went to the king, and he authorized them to observe the ordinances of the Nations. 14 So they built a gymnasium in Jerusalem according to the laws of the Nations. 15 They made themselves uncircumcised, forsook the holy covenant, joined themselves to the Nations, and sold themselves to do evil.
Tobit 4:12-13 (T)
Tobit, also called The Book of Tobias, found its way into the Roman Catholic canon via the Septuagint. Before the 1952 discovery of Aramaic and Hebrew fragments of Tobit among the Dead Sea Scrolls in a cave at Qumran, scholars believed Tobit was not included in the Jewish canon because of late authorship, estimated to 100 A.D.. Qumran fragments of the text, which were copied between 100 B.C. to 25 A.D., evidence a much earlier origin than previously thought. These fragments evidence authorship no later than the 2nd century B.C. and, likely, contemporary with the date ascribed, by modern scholars, to the final compilation of the Book of Daniel, which did attain canonical status.
4:12 Beware, my child, of all fornication, and take first a woman of the seed of your fathers. Don’t take a strange woman, who is not of your father’s tribe; for we are the descendants of the prophets. Remember, my child, that Noaḥ, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, our fathers of old time, all took wives of their kindred, and were blessed in their children, and their seed will inherit the land. 13 And now, my child, love your kindred, and don’t scorn your kindred and the sons and the daughters of your people in your heart, to take a woman of them; for in scornfulness is destruction and much trouble, and in naughtiness is decay and great lack; for naughtiness is the mother of famine.
Jubilees 25:1, 4-5; Jubilees 30:7-16 (T)
Between 1947 and 1956 approximately 15 Jubilees scrolls were found in five caves at Qumran, all written in Hebrew. The large number of manuscripts (more than for any biblical books except for Psalms, Deuteronomy, Isaiah, Exodus, and Genesis, in descending order) indicates that Jubilees was widely used at Qumran. A comparison of the Qumran texts with the Ethiopic version, performed by James VanderKam, found that the Ethiopic was in most respects an accurate and literalistic translation. Scholars have dated Jubilees to have been written sometime around 160-150 B.C.
Jubilees 25:1 And in the second year of this week in this jubilee, [2109 A.M.] Rebecca called Jacob her son, and spake unto him, saying: “My son, do not take thee a woman of the daughters of Canaan, as Esau, thy brother, who took him two wives of the daughters of Canaan, and they have embittered my soul with all their unclean deeds: for all their deeds are fornication and coveting, and there is no righteousness with them, for (their deeds) are evil…” … 25:4 And then spake Jacob to Rebecca, his mother, and said unto her: “Behold, mother, I am nine weeks of years old, and I neither know nor have I touched any woman, nor have I betrothed myself to any, nor even think of taking me a woman of the daughters of Canaan. 5. For I remember, mother, the words of Abraham, our father, for he commanded me not to take a woman of the daughters of Canaan, but to take me a woman from the seed of my father’s house and from my kindred.
Jubilees 30:7 And if there is any man who wisheth in Israel to give his daughter or his sister to any man who is of the seed of the Nations he will surely die, and they will stone him with stones; for he hath wrought shame in Israel; and they will burn the woman with fire, because she hath dishonoured the name of the house of her father, and she will be rooted out of Israel. 8. And let not an adulteress and no uncleanness be found in Israel throughout all the days of the generations of the land; for Israel is holy unto the Lord, and every man who hath defiled (it) will surely die: they will stone him with stones. 9. For thus hath it been ordained and written in the heavenly tables regarding all the seed of Israel: he who defileth (it) will surely die, and he will be stoned with stones. 10. And to this law there is no limit of days, and no forgiveness, nor any atonement: but the man who hath defiled his daughter will be rooted out in the midst of all Israel, because he hath given of his seed to Moloch, and wrought impiously so as to defile it. 11. And do thou, Moses, command the sons of Israel and exhort them not to give their daughters to the Nations, and not to take for their sons any of the daughters of the Nations, for this is abominable before the Lord. 12. For this reason I have written for thee in the words of the Law all the deeds of the Shechemites, which they wrought against Dinah, and how the sons of Jacob spake, saying: “We will not give our daughter to a man who is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us.” 13. And it is a reproach to Israel, to those who give, and to those who take the daughters of the Nations; for this is unclean and abominable to Israel. 14. And Israel will not be free from this uncleanness if it hath a woman of the daughters of the Nations, or hath given any of its daughters to a man who is of any of the Nations. 15. For there will be plague upon plague, and curse upon curse, and every judgment and plague and curse will come (upon him): if he do this thing, or hide his eyes from those who commit uncleanness, or those who defile the sanctuary of the Lord, or those who profane His holy name, (then) will the whole nation together be judged for all the uncleanness and profanation of this (man). 16. And there will be no respect of persons [and no consideration of persons], and no receiving at his hands of fruits and offerings and burnt offerings and fat, nor the fragrance of sweet savour, so as to accept it: and so fare every man or woman in Israel who defileth the sanctuary.
Deuteronomy 6:4 – 7:26 from the Jerusalem Targum aka Targum Pseudo-Jonathan (T)
Composed in Talmudic Israel (c.150 – c.250 AD). Targum Pseudo-Jonathan is a western targum (translation) of the Torah (Pentateuch) from the land of Israel (as opposed to the eastern Babylonian Targum Onkelos). Its correct title was originally Targum Yerushalmi (Jerusalem Targum), which is how it was known in medieval times. But because of a printer’s mistake it was later labeled Targum Jonathan, in reference to Jonathan ben Uzziel. Some editions of the Pentateuch continue to call it Targum Jonathan to this day. Most scholars refer to the text as Targum Pseudo-Jonathan. This targum is more than a mere translation. It includes much Aggadic material collected from various sources as late as the Midrash Rabbah as well as earlier material from the Talmud. It is effectively a combination of a commentary and a translation. In the portions where it is pure translation, it often agrees with the Targum Onkelos. The date of its composition is disputed. It cannot have been completed before the Arabic conquest as it refers to Mohammad’s wife Fatimah, but might have been initially composed in the 4th Century AD. However, some scholars date it in the 14th Century.
Chapter 6 …It was, when the time came that our father Jakob should be gathered out of the world, he was anxious lest there might be an idolater among his sons. He called them, and questioned them, Is there such perversity in your hearts? They answered, all of them together, and said to him: HEAR, ISRAEL OUR FATHER: THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD! Jakob made response, and said, Blessed be His Glorious Name for ever and ever. [JERUSALEM. When the end had come to our father Jakob, that he should be taken up from the world, he called the twelve tribes, his sons, and gathered them round his couch. Then Jakob our father rose up, and said to them., Do you worship any idol that Terah the father of Abraham worshipped? do you worship any idol that Laban (the brother of his mother) worshipped? or worship you the Elohim of Jakob? The twelve tribes answered together, with fulness of heart, and said, Hear now, Israel our father: The Lord our Elohim is one Lord. Jakob responded and said, May His Great Name be blessed for ever!]
Mosheh the prophet said to the people of the house of Israel, Follow after the true worship of your fathers, that you may love the Lord your Elohim with each disposition of your hearts, and also that He may accept your souls, and the (dedicated) service of all your wealth; and let these words which I command you this day be written upon the tables of your hearts. And thou shalt unfold them to thy children, and meditate upon them when thou art sitting in your houses, at the time when you are occupied in secret chambers, or in journeying by the way; at evening when you lie down, and at morn when you arise. And you shall bind them as written signs upon thy left hand, and they shall be for tephillin upon thy forehead over thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the pillars, and affix them in three places, against the cupboard, upon the posts of thy house, and on the right hand of thy gate, in thy going out.
And when the Lord thy Elohim hath brought thee into the land which he promised to Abraham, Izhak, and Jakob, thy fathers, to give thee cities great and goodly which thou didst not toil in building, houses also, filled with all good, which thou wast not occupied in filling, and hewn cisterns in hewing which thou didst not labour, vineyards and olives with planting which thou wast not wearied; and when thou hast eaten. and art satisfied, beware lest you forget the fear of the Lord your God, who delivered and led you out free from the land of Mizraim, from the house of the affliction of slaves; but fear the Lord your God, and worship before Him, and swear by the Name of the Word of the Lord in truth. You shall not go after the idols of the Gentiles, the idols of the peoples who are round about you: for the Lord our Elohim is a jealous God, and an Avenger, whose Shekinah dwelleth in the midst of you; lest the anger of the Lord your Elohim be kindled against you, and He quickly destroy you from the face of the earth. Sons of Israel, my people, be warned not to tempt the Lord your Elohim as you tempted Him in the ten temptations; keeping keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and His testimonies and statutes which He hath commanded you; and do what is good and right before the Lord, that it may be well with you, and ye may go in, and possess by inheritance the good land which the Lord covenanted to your fathers; that He may drive out all thy enemies before thee, as the Lord hath said.
When thy son, in time to come, shall ask thee, saying, What are the testimonies, statutes, and judgments which the Lord our Elohim hath commanded you? then shall you say to your sons, We were servants to Pharaoh in Mizraim, and the Word of the Lord brought us out of Mizraim with a mighty hand; and the Word of the Lord wrought signs, great wonders, and sore plagues on Mizraim and on Pharaoh and all the men of his house, which our eyes beheld; but us He led forth free to bring us in and give us the land which He sware to our fathers. And the Lord commanded us to perform all these statutes, that we may fear the Lord our Elohim for good to us in all days, that He may preserve us alive as at the time of this day; and (the reward of) righteousness will be reserved for us in the world to come, if we keep all these commandments to perform them before the Lord our God, as He hath commanded us.
Chapter 7 When the Lord thy Elohim shall bring thee into the land to which thou wilt come to possess it, and He will make many peoples to go out from before thee, the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Kenaanites, Perizites, Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and strong than thou., and the Lord your Elohim will deliver them up before you, then shall you blot them out and utterly consume them by the curse of the Lord. You shall strike no covenant with them, nor have pity upon them. You shall not intermarry with them; your daughters you shall not give to their sons, nor take their daughters for your sons; for whosoever marrieth with them is as if he made marriage with their idols. [JERUSALEM. You shall not be commixed with them.] For their daughters will lead your sons away from My worship to serve the idols of the Gentiles; so will the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and He will destroy you suddenly. But this shall you do to them : you shall destroy their altars, break their statues in pieces, cut down their groves for worship, and burn the images of their idols with fire. For you shall be a holy people before the Lord your God, as the Lord your Elohim hath taken pleasure in you, that you may be a people more beloved before Him than all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. Not because You were more excellent than all other peoples hath the Lord had pleasure in you and chosen you, but because you were poor in spirit, and more humble than all the nations. Therefore, because the Lord had mercy on you, and would keep the covenant He had sworn with your fathers, He led you out free with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of the affliction of slaves, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Mizraim. Know therefore that the Lord your Elohim is a Judge, strong and faithful, keeping covenant and mercy with them who love Him and keep His commandments unto a thousand generations, and who repayeth to them who hate Him the reward of their good works in this world, to destroy them (for their evil works) in the world to come; neither delayeth He (to reward) His enemies, but while they are alive in this world He payeth them their recompense. [JERUSALEM. And he repayeth them who hate Him for their little deeds of good which are in their hands in this world, to destroy them in the world to come; nor doth He delay to render to them that hate Him the reward of the slight works that are in their hands in this world.] Observe therefore the mandates, the statutes, and judgments which I command you, to perform them.
If you receive these judgments, and observe and perform them, then will the Lord your Elohim keep with you the covenant and the lovingkindness which He sware to your fathers. And He will love, bless, and multiply you, and will bless the children of your wombs, the fruit of your ground, your corn, wine, and oil, the herds of your oxen, and the flocks of your sheep, on the land which He sware to your fathers to give you. More blessed will you be than all peoples; there shall not be among you barren men or women, nor thy cattle (be wanting) in wool, or milk, or seed. And the Lord will put away from thee all the diseases and evil plagues that He sent upon Mizraim which thou hast known; He will not put them upon you, but will send them forth upon all your enemies. And thou shalt consume all the nations which the Lord thy Elohim giveth up to thee; thine eye shall not spare them nor their idols, because they would be a stumbling-block to thee. Neither say in thy heart, These nations are greater and stronger than I am: how shall I be able to drive them out? Be not afraid of them; remember the work of power which the Lord thy Elohim wrought upon Pharaoh and all the Mizraee; the great miracles which thou didst see with thine eyes, the signs and wonders, the strength of the mighty hand, and the victory of the uplifted arm, when the Lord your Elohim led you out free: so will the Lord your Elohim do unto all the peoples before whom thou art afraid. Moreover, the Lord your Elohim will send the plague of biting hornets among you, until they who have remained shall perish and disappear before you. Therefore be not down-broken before them, for the Shekinah of the Lord your Elohim is among you, the Great and Fearful God.
But the Lord your Elohim will make these nations depart from before thee by little and little. You may not destroy them at once, lest the beasts of the field multiply against you, when they have come to devour their carcases. But the Lord your Elohim will give them up before you, and will trouble them with great trouble, until they shall be consumed [JERUSALEM. And shall trouble them with great trouble, till the time that they shall be destroyed.] And He will deliver their kings into your hands, and you shall destroy their names from remembrance under the whole heavens: not a man shall stand before you until you have destroyed them. You shall burn their images with fire, nor desire the silver and gold that may be upon them, nor take them, lest through them you offend, for they are an abomination before the Lord your God. Neither may you bring their abominable idols or their service-vessels into your houses, that you be not accursed as they but you shall utterly loathe them as a loathsome reptile, and abhor them altogether, because they are accursed.
